Sorrento, named after a beautiful town in the southwest Italy, is a fine specimen of true Italian flavors imbedded in authenticity and improvisation while still maintaining Italian traditions and bringing Italy to the heart of Delhi.
In light of the global shift towards fitness and health, Shangri La’s Eros Hotel, New Delhi is celebrating the Global Wellness Month throughout June and in lieu of that they have launched a special “Au Naturel” menu, which celebrates the rich flavors of Italian cuisine in the most wholesome, and refreshingly light manner.
Specially curated by Executive Chef Neeraj Tyagi, who is under training by Michelin Star Chef Florent Boivin from the institute of Paul Bocuse in Lyon, this menu features options that will delight your palate and keep you feeling light and healthy.
The menu promises a wild re-imagining Italian food and we leave ourselves at the tender mercies of a tasting menu.
We start off with some deliciously crafted boozy cocktails, kept light and refreshing due to the soaring mercury
A swallow later, reminiscent of summer’s tang in gloomy winter, we’re ready for our meal.
The menu offers not just a dining experience but takes you on an invigorating tour.
It begins with a zesty quinoa pomegranate salad– the appetizer that awakens your appetite and closely followed by an Atlantic Crab Salad doused in strawberry soup and subtle flavours of basil air infused with decadence.
The sun-dried tomato pesto is the real deal on the table, its not just a condiment, believe me when i say this, heavy on flavour sour and sweet, it is so damn delicious, i had at least 2 bowls of that alone, thats how well it was made and thats something for everyone’s palate!
Potato Ravioli comes next, as you can tell, the ravioli is extremely light with shiitake mushroom, potato consommé and a white truffle essence, that’s as fancy and as delicosuly humble as it gets!
Poached Lobster and Seared Lamb loin will make any carnicore mighty happy with just the plain anticipation of delicate flavours imbedded in some really well cooked meat. The latter fights for attention where the lamb is cooked to an utter perfection, medium rare, served with a piquant natural jus and gratin potatoes, an absolute stunner!
And then it’s time for the piece de triomphe which is the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass, which serves as a reminder that all life comes from the sea. The pristine fish melts in the mouth with abandon, served with a smoked eggplant puree, pickled eggplant, quinoa pilaf and a summer lemon jus. This was certainly one of the better-cooked fish I have ever eaten.
Dessert is another refreshing platter that honors seasonal local ingredients with preparation that focuses on flavor with a fresh strawberry sorbet, olive oil cake and a flax seed tuile. Much delightful and balanced, my only complaint being the singularity of the tuile, I wanted more!
Book yourself a meal and for a change indulge in a wholesome meal that wont leave you tucking on your tummy instead will leave you in reminiscence of truly inspired Italian meal!
