Olive continues to be the perennially posh drink and dine playground for the fine Delhi gentry where the food and ambience will be visually soothing on your sight and extremely palatable on your palate.
Exuding romance with an all-white décor with azure accents, vines creeping up and down walls, pebbles under your feet and comfortable wicker furniture all over,Olive is the kind of picture-perfect setting that looks and feels casual, but not crummy.
It fits for both a cozy dinner to celebrate a double digit anniversary and a delightful first date.
Regardless of where you’re seated, take advantage of the variety of seriously aphrodisiac dishes on the menu.
The menu is a beautiful manifestation of dishes which understand the concept of balance in flavour and texture which exhibits in each element of every dish and mind you, there are quite a few of them on every plate.
Being seated and eagerly hungry for the chef’s finest creations for the season we gulped down some delicate amuse bouche
– Watermelon jelly, fermented gooseberry: a wonderful pop of fresh organic flavours with a tad bit of sorcery.
– Parsnip Crisp, goat cheese and semi dried tomato: a textural delight and highly addictive.
– Chicken liver parfait, poached cheery: smoother than butter.
Setting a rather exciting anticipation on the tummies for greater flavours, I was thoroughly impressed with the course of Chicken Consommé and Mushroom Consommé that was served next.
Clear soups flavoured with extreme intensity served with tortellini, goat cheese, mushroom and Kale these slurps were certainly one of the most memorable moments of my gluttonous life. Delicate and delicious with bags of sequential flavours.
Tenderloin Pastrami is a beautiful sight to behold with white asparagus, horseradish cream, pickled onions, radish and Parmesan! Looks like a delicate piece of art too pretty to eat but you’ll thank your gods on tasting the first few morsels of this.
Mains arrive looking as seductive as any matter in the universe can! Watch out for a food boner right here.
Chilean Sea Bass is full bodied with flavours that define delicacy and subtlety from the curry glaze served with sunchoke purée, Savoy cabbage & sunchoke chips. I would eat this every day! Magnificent creation.
Belgian Pork Belly comes gambolling up, slow braised with bacon & pear jam, recumbent with creamy potato mash, piccalilli purée and crackling. While practically melting like butter in the mouth the flavours explode a bomb on the palate.
Broken Lemon Meringue Tart will leave you licking your plate with serious avarice. A beautiful mess of lemon curd espuma, vanilla sable, lemon gel, lemon & passionfruit sorbet and broken meringue, this is a superlative sweet treat that will haunt you for several nights with mesmerising tickles in your mouth.
Quickly summing up my X rated culinary journey at Olive, it’s apt to say that this is a destination that engages all senses in a supernova of tasteful experiences that leave your palate in amazement and wonder with clever use of the fresh and the exotic commemorated in a single bite and always manages to deliver a worthwhile experience that makes up for the heavy duty prices you pay here. Once in a while, it’s good to splurge and if you’re in a mood to indulge, Olive is definitely among your top five choices in the city!
